Your due date is approaching. Soon, you’ll be holding your baby in your arms instead of watching them grow in the womb. The Fetal Position Scan at UC Baby gives you one final opportunity to connect with your baby before delivery while learning how they are positioned as birth approaches.
During this special late-pregnancy 2D ultrasound, you will learn your baby’s position in the womb. The baby may be head down, breech, or in another position. You may see some of the baby’s movements and hear the baby’s heartbeats. Face images are not taken during this scan.
Since this scan is done after 35 weeks of pregnancy, the baby might be engaged in the birth canal. It is possible to see moving hands, arms and legs. However, whole-body movements are rarely seen at this stage.
For many families, this becomes one of the most meaningful moments in their pregnancy—a final glimpse before the first hello.
The Fetal Position Scan is designed for expectant mothers in the later stages of pregnancy who want to learn more about their baby’s position before labour and delivery.
As your baby grows, they continue to move and adjust inside the womb. During your scan, our ultrasound technician will show you how your baby is positioned at the time of your appointment.
Your baby may be:
✔ Head down (cephalic position)
✔ Breech (bottom or feet first)
✔ Transverse (lying sideways)
✔ In another position as they prepare for birth
This scan provides a snapshot of your baby’s current position and offers an exciting opportunity to see your little one once more before delivery.
UC Baby’s Fetal Position Scan is a non-diagnostic ultrasound experience intended for bonding and keepsake purposes. While you may have the opportunity to view your baby’s position during your appointment, this session is not a medical examination and should not be used to diagnose, monitor, or assess any medical condition.
This experience does not replace prenatal care, diagnostic imaging, or advice from your healthcare provider. Always follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations regarding your pregnancy and delivery.
The final weeks of pregnancy are filled with anticipation, excitement, and emotion.
Many parents tell us that as delivery approaches, they realize how quickly their pregnancy has flown by. The first positive pregnancy test, the first ultrasound, the first kicks—all those milestones have led to this moment.
The Fetal Position Scan allows you to pause and appreciate these final weeks before your baby arrives.
You may see your baby stretching, yawning, sucking their thumb, opening their eyes, or responding to familiar voices. These precious moments often become treasured memories for parents, siblings, and grandparents eagerly awaiting the newest member of the family.
