If the sperm is carrying an X chromosome, the baby will be a girl. If the sperm is carrying a Y chromosome, the baby will be a boy.\u00a0With a normal pregnancy, the genital parts of the baby become visible by ultrasound after 14 weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1>What You Need to Know about Ultrasounds for Baby&rsquo;s Sex Determination<\/h1>\n<h2>Facts about Pregnancy Ultrasound scans:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Boys and girls look the same in <strong>1st trimester.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21171 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ucbaby.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/2d-gender-ultrasound-blog-.png\" alt=\"Gender Ultrasounds for Baby Sex Determination\" width=\"437\" height=\"347\" \/><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Gender determination by ultrasound would be just guessing game before <strong>14 weeks<\/strong>, genital tubercle starts showing up after this stage.<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cnub theory\u201d predicts genital tubercle can show upwards for boys and downward for girls but it is not visible in most of the cases by <strong>15 weeks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The ultrasound scans done between <strong>12-16 weeks<\/strong> have the highest rate of mistake, accuracy rate is 85-90 % due to small size, slight anatomical difference between penis or clitoris and constant movements of the baby.<\/li>\n<li>The accuracy rate goes higher between <strong>16 to 20 weeks<\/strong>, 95-98%, depending on baby, mother and operator related factors.<\/li>\n<li>The gender is more accurately determined after <strong>20 weeks<\/strong> of pregnancy, with 99 % accuracy.<\/li>\n<li>2D ultrasound is more reliable than 3D before <strong>22 weeks<\/strong> of pregnancy as cord or fingers mimic penis on 3D images<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Factors that Affect the Reliability of Results &amp; Quality of the Images:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Swollen genitals with girls can look like testicles on 3D images. This is frequently seen due to the hormones passing from mother to the baby.<\/li>\n<li>3D gender images might not be obtained at any stage due to the position of the baby.<\/li>\n<li>At any stage, correct determination of gender depends of many factors such as baby\u2019s position and movements, amniotic fluid, location of the cord and placenta, single or multiple babies etc.<\/li>\n<li>Mother\u2019s size has significant impact on correct gender determination. When the ultrasound waves must travel through more tissues, the image quality gets poor.<\/li>\n<li>The ultrasound machine\u2019s resolution and operator\u2019s knowledge and experience can also effect gender determination.<\/li>\n<li>The person who performs the scan is the only person to tell you just how accurate \u00ab\u00a0that\u00a0\u00bb particular diagnosis is, at that particular scan.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21161\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ucbaby.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Gender-Pregnancy-Ultrasound-Blog.png\" alt=\"Gender Ultrasound photos UC BABY\" width=\"1400\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>UC BABY Gender Reveal Sessions<\/h1>\n<p>At UC Baby we accept gender reveal clients only after 16 weeks.
